First, I would like to welcome the DSA and Appeals :D This includes people like Sheryl, Bertrand, Ruth, Ting Yu, Hwee Sze, Jane, Serene, YooJin and Zhu Le! WELCOME TO MJChoir! Have fun OK? hahah and go learn the SYF pieces from your SL if you dunno how to sing :D

Secondly, this goes out to all the J1 people who have been reading this blog and know that they are in choir already. Please come for practice this Thursday 17/2. Also, the choir orentation camp is THIS FRI 18/2. SO PLEASE COME OK? If you still do not have the form pleas come get it from our Pres(MYO) or V.Pres(Wei Chong).

Thirdly, the theme for the orentation is BANG! so yeah just saying :D hahah. What you need to bring SHOULD be given to you tomorrow

Lastly, I just want to say that SYF and the auditions for SFY team is not too far away. SO PLEASE ALL THE J2s WHO STILL DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SING THE SYF SONGS PLS GO REVISE AND ASK YOUR SLs FOR HELP! J1s you people have to JYJY ok? cause it will be SYF soon!

Ok this is kinda late but good job singing The Dawn Wind when we went to the collage in woodlands. Aaron has analysed the song and has written how we can futher improve on the song on a score. I will upload the scores as soon as Liang Deng has scanned and send it to me. :) Also i wanted to make a private post to upload the audio of us singing the dawn wind but apparently you cant do that on blogger. Its 4 days away to the concert!!!! Please take care of your health ok? Drink lots of water, and get ample rest! Hope you guys did get the well-deserved rest you needed over the weekend :) And thanks welfare comm for the honey and biscuits on Sat!

Lets all just hang in there! for another 4 more days and give it our all! It will be our dearest J2s last performance in Mjchoir and we do want it to be the most memorable last experience we have with them!

Here's the practice schedule until concert.

And next practice is on tuesday, 5.30pm for the whole choir. Make sure you're there on time, we will start warm up at 5.30pm sharp. So yeah, be there before 5.30pm. =)

And there will be sectionals and practice for the people who did not go riva on Monday, the Sls should have informed you the time you are supposed to meet them.

Just few more practices left to concert, we're really running short of time, so must work really hard. So jiayou man!

HI CHOIR!!!
We're back from Riva! In the blink of an eye, a week has passed! They always say time flies when you're having good times. I REALLY BELIEVE THAT! Everyone dreaded the feeling of going home! Hahaha. It was great having the opportunity for us to bond together, do crazy stuff and EAT PASTA AS APPETIZER. HAHAHA. We're really a crazy bunch aren't we? Let's not leave the rest of choir out, so here are the videos of our performance!
Some takeaways that we got from the trip:
1. A choir with consistent self-discipline and focus would show that on stage during their performance, especially in our songs, our stage presence, our expressiveness and ability to handle stress, and its something that we would work towards from now on(:
2. During the Grand Finals, it was the time where everyone really really put their heart and soul into singing the last 2 songs. The spirit of making good music, of captivating the audience's attention, whether we were going to win or not is REALLY COMMENDABLE. Don't we just love the sweet applauses that comes after an amazing performance? And that's the lifelong spirit and attitude a Meridian chorister should and would have! Because, WE MAKE THE MUSIC! (heart shaped hand sign!)
3. ENJOY THE MUSIC YOU MAKE. Cause when you do, your audience do too(: The Denmark Radio TV girls came up to me and told us we sounded 'SO SO GOOD, SO GOOD!' so once again. GREAT JOB MJCHOIR!

Let's look forward to our concert right now, along with the rest of choir, its gonna be another BLAST!:D We'll bring good music with our vocals to everyone yes! Do encourage your friends to go alright!

okay I know I'm supposed to be studying, but HEY J2s!! Hope your are all coping alright there! And for our dear J1s who have been having loads of practices, good job and keep persevering yea!:D
Rmb, every single little mistake you clear and nvr make again contributes to the beautiful endpiece we want to produce! That means,every practice you're having right now is significant, I'm sure we want to go there to excel and achieve CATEGORY CHAMPIONS yes?:DDD Most of all, we're there to present MJ choir for the first time in Riva! We're there to MAKE OUR MUSIC, and to show the italians and other international judges what we're truly made of! That our young choir is just as good as any other, or even better! For better mental prep, do close your eyes and imagine that your singing in front of the judges, in the big big hall, and performing your best! It'll make you feel more steady and prepared for the real thing!(: Having come so far, if you're feeling abit worn-out, that's gd! It shows you've been putting in gd effort,that will pay off of course(: But of course, I hope the excitement that WE'RE GOING TO ITALY THIS FRIDAY erases all that! What's left behind is our preparedness,spirit to fight and excitement yes! I know this sounds corny, but WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER ALRIGHT!(omg so many exclamations. xD IM EXCITED!)

Some important things to take note:

1.do change your €100 bills into SMALLER DENOMINATIONS.because there's plenty of counterfeit there and the stall-owners may not always accept BIG bills okay!
2. remember to bring your own medication (if needed for flu,gastric etc.), manuka honey (its gd in the morning), ginger tea, thermo flask(go invest in a gd one:),lozenges, heat pack,warm woollen clothing as it may SNOW (who knows yea!!:D)

Here's a to-do list for Riva, be sure to take a look at it! Take note of the deadlines, but it's best to get everything done ASAP.

Submit FULL payment by 3 March 2010, otherwise your place will be forfeited.
Submit official consent form together with your passport photo by 3 March 2010.
Ensure that your passport has at least 6 months validity. If not, make a new one by 3 March 2010.
Submit a photocopy of your passport details page by 3 March 2010.
Get the H1N1 vaccine before 12 March 2010.
Submit a photocopy of the H1N1 vaccination certificate before 12 March 2010.

For those applying for the Opportunity Fund, the following additional documents are required by 3 March 2010:

Photocopies of the Identity Card (both sides) of every person in the immediate family.
Photocopies of the Student Pass (both sides) of every person in the immediate family who is schooling.
Latest payslip (i.e. January or February 2010) and latest income tax declaration (i.e. 2009 / 2010).
[If applicable] Signed declaration of unemployment.

On a side note, any seniors willing to donate/loan their gowns/blazers/ties to us? We'd really appreciate it! Excuuuu me, why are you here? You should be studying!!!! -stupid grin-

Okay okay, so this is basically an invitation for you to join the MJChoir in Italy!!!!!!!!! <--- REAL PASTA/PIZZA FOUND HERE! =D

The trip is some time in March, and the cost should be around $3500. No subsidies for us cos we'll be out of MJ :'( / =D <--- choose a smiley for yourself.

Basically, if you wanna go, it's to COMPETE, not to enjoy so much of the pasta and pizza. The choir will be taking part in a male chorus (and female chorus too, right??) so we need more manpower/womanpower!

Don't worry about the practices for now, you'll probably only need to turn up after the A's :)

Feel free to let me, or the super-funny Xioa Hui, know if you're interested or if you wanna go. The trip's only less than a week long, I think. :)

These few days everyone getting back their results, than you can totally sense the emoness in the air. I have to tell you all something, this is how life sucks man! -.- Yeap.

We are all stuck in this system called the JC 2-year education, so we have to live with it. As sad as it might sound. WE HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT!

Chill chill, don't go cry in the corner of the room. Whatever that happens, the seniors, have been through what you have been through, and if we can survive till this day standing, so can you man. Serious. (Chinese proverb: We consume the salt more that you consume the rice a.k.a. we got the wisdom)

AND! The ultimate things are still the As. WHo cares whether it is a 2-year course or a 3-year course when ultimately, your A-level result slip is the one that gets you into the university course you want.

No matter what the result is, just look on the bright side of stuff and what might seem super devastating will eventually be purposeful.

It is through life's failures that we learn and grow, if our lives are smooth flowing, how are we to grow to become strong? Yeah, promos are just 1 teeny hurdle in your JC life, if you don't get pass it so what? Learn to pick yourself up and try again.

Don't be too depressed by anything that comes your way yeah?
Choir still needs you and Meixuan(Hi mx!) and Glenn (hi glenn!) still needs your cooperation in next year's italy trip and concert. :)

I know a lot of us going through tremendous stress, breathe in, breathe out. Chill chill! No matter what kind of sorry plight you are in for prelim results, no matter what you tell yourself in your head, "I should never come JC... T.T", no matter how much time you have left...

Work like you never worked before. You are feeling stressed? GOOD! Stress is what can make you or break you. WHether it makes you or break you, you are the one who will decide it. So study hard!

Miracles do happen, it's just whether you want to make it happen. DOn't give up just yet. You can give it up after 30-40 days, at that time, when you look back, you will go... "AHAHAHA!!! STOOOOPID As!!!! YOU ARE GONE FROM MY LIFE!!!"

So work hard yeah? AHA!

Study hard, mug hard but pray harder. :)

Hey there choir! :)

The time has come. Finally, after months of hard work, time, sacrifice, and effort.

We're gonna have 10 minutes to show everyone what we're made of.

12960 minutes of practice. And 10 minutes to give a perfect performance. No pressure, people. Lol.

We've worked so hard, grown to love the songs and one another. Even to love Sounds of Joy. In QUARTET. We've come a long way man =)

So this last 10 minutes, give it all you've got. Don't be afraid to sing. Don't be afraid to go sharp/flat. Don't be afraid to screw up the songs that we've been practising so hard for. Don't be afraid to enjoy the moment.

We've practised enough. Now it's time to show everyone what we've got. Don't be afraid to shine. This is our moment; take hold of it and make it yours to keep.

Whatever the result is, we're still MJChoir. We've grown so much and we will continue to grow :) I'm really really proud of you guys and whatever happens, we'll still make the music!

NUSChoir - VarsityVoices 2009: Musica Moderna

Hello all,

School's in! Hope everyone is coping well!

I would like to do a little promotion for NUSChoir : )

Managed by the National University of Singapore (NUS) Centre For the Arts, the NUS Choir presents its annual concert, "Varsity Voices 2009: Musica Moderna" on 21 February (Saturday), 730pm at the University Cultural Centre Hall, NUS.

In this concert, the Choir ventures further by presenting an assortment of modern choral works. Featuring pieces, some of which will be the first to be premiered in Singapore, by renowned contemporary composers such as Eric Whitacre, the Choir offers its audience a renewed perspective on choral music.

There will be many MJChoir seniors performing in this concert, namely: myself, Irene, Michelle Ho, Huiling, Gerald, Jeremy Ong and Harris (who is conducting some songs!)

Choir Practices

Harro everybody!

Before you know it, it has already been 2 weeks into school. And before you know it, we have moved from singing christmas carols to Chinese New Year songs. Haha.

This post is just a reminder for everybody that choir will resume on Wednesday 2.15pm, in the AVA room. I do not want to see people strolling in only at 2.30pm. Having everyone assemble by 2.15p.m. is so that we will be able to settle down by 2.30p.m. before Mr. Kwei arrives.

This year is the SYF year, punctuality for every choir session will be very important. Soon, we will be implacing a fine system to warn off late coming. SO, please change the habbit of coming late. Be it for Tuedays, Wednesdays or future days of the week.

No matter what it is, have a very happy happy chinese new year! And may all of you be loaded with Ang Pows! Whoot! You don't want to pay your angpow money to the choir fund right? Then don't come late.

P.S. Don't eat too much bagua, love letters, kueh bangkit, the bee hive thingy, prawn roll... If you want to drink A LOT of water. A LOT!

HELLO ALL!!!

Yep! It's a brand new year! Byebye 2008 and Hello 2009!

2008 has been very eventful for choir.

From performances that we put up in school (CNY + CCA fair), to public performances (Jubilee Hall + Esplanade), to performances overseas (Olomouc and Batam), exchanges that we had with different schools, and fun times we had during choir camp and farewell.

I believe that everyone will remember the really great times we had in 2008. What's more important is, you were part of everything! So give yourself a pat on the back!

Whoohoo! :D

However, 2008 has passed and 2009 is happening right now! And the upcoming events might throw us off our guards and everything. No matter what it is, I really pray and hope that everyone will continue to improve and strive as a whole choir and REACH OUT FOR THE GOAL!

Hello everybody!!!

How were your holidays? Hope that it has been fruitful. :) All play and no work is not good horh. If you have not started on work. GET STARTED NOW!

As can be seen from the title. THE BATAM GROUP IS BACK FROM BATAM! Cheers to them for sacrificing their time and effort for the trip. As in turns out, our performance when we were over there was very good and Mr Kwei even commented that we were very good as a 30 pax. choir singing mate saule.

Mr. Foong stated that if we continue to improve in such a way, the goal for next year's SYF will not be far. (: So keep it up people!

Also, I would like to extend my thanks to everyone in choir who has been reporting faithfully back for practice during the holidays before the TKSS concert. I know that nobody wants to burn up their holidays for others. But YOU ALL DID! FOR CHOIR!

And it paid off well as everyone enjoyed the concert very much. The crowd loved luk luk and the J2 seniors who came back to watch us perform were PROUD OF US! Good job again guys!

Hello there!

Well done in last night's concert! It was really impressive especially for luk luk where you guys really put all your energy into it! The singing was also very well done and could see all your souls and hearts in it : )

Jubilee Hall is not a very nice place to sing with the air and acoustics being dry. However, you guys pulled through and I'm sure its another experience to take home : )

I just realised that it was only J1s on stage yesterday! KUDOS to you all!

And the costumes were really nice especially the girls' red dresses! You all carried yourselves really well and I must say, I felt proud watching you all : )

I got to know a few juniors yesterday and I hope to get to know more of you all in time to come! :)

The open house is up and coming and just to refresh your memory, we are singing a total of 4 songs, Luk lumbu, Sinsin, Sohran Bushi and Itsumo Nan Demo (spirited away).

Do use your SUPER FREE time now to reherse the songs and memorize your scores. (Especially for sprited away) Remember that our main aim is to capture the attention of the innocent little secondary 4 kids, so please put effort into the songs.

Farewell took place on 1st August and I believe that it marked a fullstop for the J2's journey and a brand new beginning for the J1s as we will now have to journey on our own as we await the new batch of juniors coming in.

First I want to congratulate EVERYONE who is a part of MJchoir, for going through this long crazy journey with us. To the Olomouc team who represented MJchoir, to the other choir members who couldn't come along but stayed at home crossing their fingers for our win, to the alumni seniors who have been encouraging us since the start, to the choir teachers who have been toiling behind the scenes, and last but not least to the conductors Mr Foong and Mr Kwei who have been leading us in the right direction. Thank you all so much for giving in your all, for providing all this support that has made our achievements in this competition possible. I am sure that without you, MJchoir wouldn't have been able to realise its dreams and its potential. I hope and I know that this is only the first baby step for MJchoir and there are many more steps like these for us to take in the future.

Our Olomouc Team must be there right now practicing and preparing for the competition as I type this sentence. The sent off on Tuesday night was indeed even worthy of an Olympic team. A contingent of 'more than 100' (where 100< x <150) family and friends gathered at Changi Airport T1 row 1 where believe it or not Emirates had to open a entire row in order to contain our members and their excited spirits! You could see the trepidation plastered on everyone's faces (F&F included (: ).

This is the furtherest journey any batch of MJ choristers has embarked on. No doubt all our hearts will be with them as they compete on the international stage on Saturday at 1540hrs and 1720hrs (Singapore time). Whatever the outcome, I'm sure they'll do themselves and the large and extensive MJchoir family proud. For in their songs, they carry the hopes and aspirations of all MJchoristers past and present.

I just stumbled upon the blog somehow and would just like to say Hi! to my choir. Yes I still think of MJ choir as my choir. Anyway, I think most of you don't know me cos I'm not like Harris or Rachel or Paulus who'd go up and talk to you. My name is Irene and I was from the 2003/2004 batch so basically I've seen the choir grow from nothing to where it is now. I'm in the NUS choir so I've seen you guys around Siglap South CC, though I never heard you sing yet this year. I know you've all come a long way from when I was a part of MJ choir and I'd like you to know that I'm really really REALLY proud of you all. You're like my little babies all grown up now and it makes me so happy when I see the choir making music and doing well. :D

Anyway, all the best for your competition, have fun and never lose your passion for singing!

Do remember to keep together as a group and look out for each other. It's going to be a long trip but do enjoy each other's company :) Such great friends are hard to come along! Keep in mind you are there to perform and don't just think about competing.

Sing your hearts out and savour each moment on stage :) Dance like you never danced before. And seriously, your luk luk lumbu has improved quite a lot :) very proud of you guys! just put in more emphasis and energy into the dance and singing, you guys will do great! Most of all, SMILE at the songs and parts that you need to smile! Your face has to show the expressions of the songs you are singing. You guys are a performer! so behave like one on stage kk :)

Hello all!
Please take note of the following,

The return flight is E348 and NOT E349. There was an error in the itinerary on the blog. The information on the bookley is correct.
The Tuesday morning practice is cancelled. :D
Try to sleep late (example: 3a.m.) on Tuesday morning and wake up late so as to get accustomed to the time difference.
YOUR CHOIR SHIRT HAS TO BE IN YOUR LUGGAGE!!! This is for the concert marathon. Unless you are telling me that you want to wear your gowns and blazers for that performance.
Print the itinerary if you have not done so.
As we are going to wear our choir shirt + jeans during the concert marathon, try not to wear that pair of jeans before (meaning: during the trip before the marathon). This is just in case any of you dirty/split your pants. :)
Try not to shout and Drink more water!!!
On the plane, try not to change from your allocated seats.
On the plane, you are not allowed to drink ANY GASSY DRINKS. ONLY juices and plain water allowed. If we catch anyone of you drinking if, you will be fined 2 EURO.
MOST IMPORTANTLY! NO ALCOHOL!!!

Yeah... that is bascially the details part.

Do take care of yourselves in these last few hours before you fly off.
Also, do make an effort to smile when you sing. :D :D :D

1) We sound better cause our cheekbones are higher.
2) We use more muscle and thus excercise at the same time. (Very healthy)
3) The judges will feel that we are very friendly and like us.
4) Makes the song sound more lively (Like Sin Sin and Luk Luk)
5) We won't be naggy and keep telling you to smile.

Yep. And smile from your heart and really enjoy yourself when you sing. I believe that all of you LOVE singing. Don't be afraid to show your enjoyment when you sing. :)

To the Olomouc people: 6 more days before we depart for Olomouc and I bet you are all busy packing your bags and practicing in your costumes in front of the mirror, singing everywhere you go and following the (quite strict) food ban.

1. The current comm has made a mistake when printing the itinery. Don't bring only 4 sets of clothing to Olomouc. Bring whatever is sufficient.
2. If possible, please handcarry your costumes cause there was an incident when a choir member lost her check-in luggage and had to wear a guy's costume to perform (I'm serious). So try to handcarry it. =)
3. Fines will continue all the way till after Olomouc trip. The current comm is still deciding to fine you all in Euros or Sing. (Pray hard that it is in Sing).
4. Sleep well, rest well, eat well and practice well. Practice makes perfect is it?
5. Meet at T1 row 2 on Tuesday, 3 June at 2120.
