Hello people! I know this should be up a LONG LONG time ago but I didn't have time. The bottom link will lead you to the photos that were taken from my camera on AJC's concert day an World Voice Day. If you have any problems with the photos, come look for me i will send you the photos directly. =)

To the Olomouc people: 6 more days before we depart for Olomouc and I bet you are all busy packing your bags and practicing in your costumes in front of the mirror, singing everywhere you go and following the (quite strict) food ban.

Some pointers to note:
1. The current comm has made a mistake when printing the itinery. Don't bring only 4 sets of clothing to Olomouc. Bring whatever is sufficient.
2. If possible, please handcarry your costumes cause there was an incident when a choir member lost her check-in luggage and had to wear a guy's costume to perform (I'm serious). So try to handcarry it. =)
3. Fines will continue all the way till after Olomouc trip. The current comm is still deciding to fine you all in Euros or Sing. (Pray hard that it is in Sing).
4. Sleep well, rest well, eat well and practice well. Practice makes perfect is it?
5. Meet at T1 row 2 on Tuesday, 3 June at 2120.

Remember 4 things: Focus, Smile, Perform. We make the music. =)

Oh, the final thing: STUDY HARD FOR MIDS! WE CAN DO IT!!

Signing off,
Louis

Hello choir! This is a lot of information to digest at once, but do make an effort to print out ONE COPY of the itinerary for yourself. Comm members (including music comm)+Room I/Cs (9 of you), it is compulsory for you to print a copy out for reference.

The competition is in a few days time! Excited?
I know that it has been a tiring journey for a lot of you going for choir practice almost every other day and having sectionals almost after every choir practice. But just HANG ON a little more cause the competition is drawing near and before you know it, it will be OVER!

    Make an effort to
    1) Abide to the food ban
    2) Take care of your voice by not screaming and shouting
    3) Practice your dance steps
    4) Practice your parts
    5) Sleep early/ Take care of yourself
    6) Come early for the remaining choir practices... (sobsobsob)
    7) AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, SING WITH THE PASSION+LOVE+EMOTIONS+Every other thing that makes a choir, a choir. Sing as ONE VOICE!

For the J2s, this will be your final THING and for the J1s, this is your first official THING! SO PRESS ON!!! GAMBATTE GAMBATTE MJ MJ!

Yes yes, very very exciting indeed... I know you're all hyped up about this food ban, so here goes!

    Food to avoid:
    1. Anything spicy (ie. CHILLI cheese fries, Mee pok HIAM, Fish head CURRY, HOT AND SPICY chips, TOM YAM soup, etc.) Basically anything that makes you tear, sweat, or makes your lips swell.

    2. Anything that causes phlegm/gives you a sore throat (ie CHOCOLATES, FRIED chicken wings, BARBECUED sausages, OILY char kway teow, Lays potato CHIPS, etc) By the way, MENTOS actually causes you to have lots of phlegm. So do dairy products, especially milo and fresh milk, etc. So especially on your competition day or even days that you have practices, ABSTAIN from such sweets/dairy products. You'll sing better that way :)

    3. Anything else that will affect your voice. You should be able to discern for yourself!

PS: Just because I say don't eat, for example, fish head CURRY, doesn't mean you go eat chicken CURRY, okay? What I mean is, don't eat CURRY.

Drink lots of water, and really take good care of your throat/voice. This food ban isn't to make your life more miserable, if that were the case we'd ban MSG, salt, tasty food, fragrant food, etc, until all that's left for you to eat is boiled cabbage. So no, that's not the point. This food ban is so that you will remember to take care of your voice.

Nobody can force you not to eat stuff that's bad for your throat, only you can do it. But ultimately, it's for your own good. So you make the final decision, whether or not to be disciplined now and be able to sing well, or give in to temptation and suffer during the trip.

Do have the responsibility to eat properly and sing to your best :) That way your effort will be worth it! So take care and make sure you get sufficient rest! :)

    Till next time
    Marianne

    VoyAJe 2008:

    Jorven's VoyAJe taupok
After our performance as a guest choir for AJC's choir concert at the Esplanade, we go backstage and the girls camwhore while the guys TAUPOK. Jorven gets taupoked by about 10 guys twice his size. Ouch. From the bottom up:Jorven, Matthew, Lingyi, Reuben, Nigel, (I cannot, for the life of me, figure out who else was involved here. Absolute mayhem.), Alvin, Zaki.

    Matthew's VoyAJe taupok
After our performance as a guest choir for AJC's choir concert at the Esplanade, we go backstage and the girls camwhore while the guys TAUPOK. From the bottom up: Matthew, Alvin, Jeremy, Reuben, Yakai, Shawn, Sebastian, and Zaki trumps all by standing on top.

Mr Foong refuses to be taupoked
Listen to the guy's conversations, it's damn funny. Might have to watch a few times before you can catch the entire thing. A lot of people are talking at the same time.

    MJChoir Camp 2008: CAMP AMAIZEIN

    Jude strips JianYong
As part of their punishment for losing in double whacko too many times, Jude had to do a proxy striptease- by stripping Jianyong.

    Sebastian poledances
As part of his punishment for losing in double whacko too many times, Sebastian had to do a poledance with Yakai as the pole as directed by Martin. But Yakai sneakily evades the poledance by claiming he was a 'pillar' and not a 'pole', so he ends up passing on the responsibility to Matthew for a 'building' dance.

    MelKang playing 123 Jump
How Melanie Kang manages to so blatently flout the rules yet everyone still lets her win cos she's damn cute. Hahaha.

    Wednesday's Practice (14th May 2008)

    Andre's taupok
Spontenaeity at it's best: After choir on the 14th of May 2008, Andre said something bitchy that got him what he said is the (& and I quote) "worst taupok ever". From the bottom up: Andre, Yakai, Jeremy, Roy, Shawn, Jianyong, Alvin.

SYF Recording Videos: What Happened During Our Break (Day 1)

    Nicolas & JonK Part I
Nicolas and JonK try to play Snow (Hey Oh) on the piano together with rather disastrous results. After that fails, Nic tries to make Jon play Fantasie Impromptu by offering to play the bass clef part- not realising that's the hard one. SO. He ends up HUMMING the part.

    Nicolas & JonK Part II
Nicolas and Jon playing the 3 hand duet from Secret. N was very pleased that he could play it, so he got J to play it with him. So he played one hand, and J played two, and he was extremely pleased with himself. (Note that J was doing most of the work.) Listen to the conversation, it's damn funny.

  • A memory lasts forever and never does it dies. True friends stay on forever and never say goodbye!

Hello choir! thank you for the wonderful performance last evening at the esplanade. It was really a very magical evening for me and I will always hold on to these many pieces of memories. It is really great to be able to perform on the stage with all of you. The choir has brought to me alot of joy laughter and love! Many precious friendships are created where we change from complete strangers to what we are today! It's probably the last performance for many j2s and we're currently all suffering from withdrawal symptoms hahas. but we are really happy for last night's performance.

Haha remember to hold on tight to these memories and continue to create more memories! Must jia you chong chong chong and sing your best for Oloumoc's competition and many other performances! Dont forget to miss us hahas. and have fun in this big happy family hahas! we love you all loads! and MJChoir... we make the music...

    HELLO!!

How have my dearest juniors been? :)

I was reading through the blog and saw some heartwarming posts like your camp's pictures! These kind of memories only come once. And when you look back at it, you'd just miss the days that you had with your friends in choir. So cherish whatever time you have with each other :)

As many of you would be having your last performance tmr before handing over the baton to the next batch, do remember to enjoy yourself to the max and perform like you really enjoy yourself!

As a chorister, your main purpose of being on stage performing is to bring out the meaning of the songs to those listening to you. Think of the song, its meaning, its dynamics etc and why did the composer do this and that...it's all to help bring out purpose of the song. Think of spreading a message, a belief!

Oh wait, I am not here to nag, but just here to spread a little bit of seniors support to the juniors :)

Do remember that the alumni seniors are a bunch of wonderful people! Maybe you have not met many and don't know that many seniors, but seriously, we are really a nice group of people :) And really approachable too! Some of you saw Harris and me at Siglap South CC today. Hmm...maybe you all were too shy to come up forth to say hi! But please do kk! Make us your friends :) You all would probably recognize us more that we recognize you!

And what is it after this year? Do you intend to continuing singing? Being in a choir? Do consider ya :) Of course, there is the alumni choir! WE of course welcome all the various batches of MJChoir members to come back and sing with us! We may not have a steady repertoire etc, but as the choir's motto says "We make the MUSIC!" So, WE make the Repertoire :)

And if you are thinking of joining the Uni choirs like NUSChoir and NTU Choir, do consider! Coz it's a different experience of being in a teacher-controlled choir and a totally ran-by-students choir! well, at least I am enjoying myself in NUS Choir :)

Come! Join us! And make new friends! We are a very young alumni choir! So, many of the seniors are able to share with you things like your korkor and jiejies! :) We can also tell you how life after JC is!

There's the facebook and yahoo groups up too! Join them kk :) We welcome everyone! Including those Graduated seniors who still read this blog :)

    Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=5610403234

    Alumni Yahoo Groups: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/MJChoirAlumni/

All the best for the performance tmr and for Czech! And I hope your dance is getting along fine :)

And to the new comm as well, all the best ya :) Do look up your seniors for advice and all!

Looking forward to seeing you guys!!

    Love lots,

    Your dearest senior
    Rachel~
